Your walk through the south, west and east wing will present you with an exciting mix of furnished castle rooms and information on the history of the castle and its builders, the Guelphs, whose roots can be traced back to the 9th century, making them one of the oldest noble houses in Europe.
Did you know that there were female builders among the Guelphs from early on, that the Kings of Hanover also ruled over England during the personal union in the 18th and 19th centuries, and that Conrad Wilhelm Hase and Edwin Oppler, two architects of great importance beyond the borders of Hanover, worked on the construction of the castle?
Experience a part of Lower Saxony’s history in the unique atmosphere of the only royal castle in Northern Germany. Our knowledgeable guides remain at your service and will be available for you at various locations to answer questions about the history and architecture of the castle or individual exhibits.
During low season (February, March and November) we offer only guided tours through the castle.
